  • 1 tsp sesame oil

For the Crispy Batter & Coating:

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (Speisestärke)

  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup plant milk (oat or soy milk, or even water)

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika & black pepper

  • 2 cups unsweetened cornflakes, crushed

For the Sticky Hot "Honey" Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp vegan butter

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave (or vegan honey)

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 4 tbsp sweet chili sauce

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Marinate the tofu: Cut your tofu into thick, rectangular strips. Place them in a bowl and add 2 tbsp soy sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and sesame oil. Mix gently until the tofu absorbs all the spices, and let it sit for a few minutes.

  2. Make the wet batter: In a shallow plate, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, plant milk, 1 tbsp soy sauce, paprika, and pepper until you get a smooth, thick, pourable batter (similar to pancake batter).

  3. Crush the flakes: Pour the unsweetened cornflakes into another plate and use your hands to crush them into smaller, crunchy bits.
